Hengda Dance Academy “Rhythm of Dance: Song of the Seasons” 舞之韻-四季歌

Hengda Dance Academy’s annual performance “Rhythm of Dance 2012: Song of the Seasons” will be held on Friday, May 11th (7:30pm) and Saturday, May 12th (2:30pm; 7:30pm) at the Meydenbauer Theatre (11100 6th St., Bellevue, WA 98004). Please don’t miss this excellent opportunity to watch this high quality dancing performance!

Ticket prices: $15, $25, and $50 (VIP), with a 10% discount for groups of ten or more. If you are interested in ordering tickets please reply to pta@nwchinese.org soon and you can pick up your tickets at NWCS this Saturday or next Saturday during school hours.

CIE Scholarship Program  

Our 10th annual scholarship application just started. Application period begins April 9, 2012 and ends June 15. If you could post it weekly or bi-weekly until June 15th, we'd greatly appreciate it.

The CIE-Seattle APA Youth Scholarship program is a motivation program designed to promote APA (Asian Pacific Americans) career interest in the fields of science, engineering, and technology. There are three award categories covering 7th graders to undergraduate college students with a total award amount of $4000. The program is not only an opportunity for students to win the scholarship to be recognized for their achivements, but also to learn the process to put things together, to ask for recommendation letter, to reflect upon where they are and where they want to go. Application period begins April 9, 2012 and ends June 15. More information can be found at http://www.cie-sea.org or in the attached file.

校园内开车请注意遵守规则和礼貌

When driving on campus, NWCS parents please follow the traffic rules and exercise common courtesy, especially when dropping off your kids in the morning. Every Saturday, we see parents who stop where they're not supposed to, for example at the four-way stop sign or where the curb is painted red (which means NO STOP at any time). as a result traffic gets backed up. This is our constant reminder that please drive with caution, courtesy and follow the rules.

董事会选举Board Member Election

学校会在六月期末的时候举行全校年会. 届时会补选两位董事, 以填补期满离职的董事的空缺. 选举委员会(CNE)已于近期成立, 并将用cne@nwchinese.org邮箱向全校家庭征集报名并进行选举. 请注意有关邮件.

We are seeking applicants for two board members. The Committee of Nomination and Election has been formed and will send email to the entire school asking for applicants and announcing the election procedures.

NWCS Library Opens This Saturday

NWCS library will be open this Saturday from 9:30am to 12:30pm. We have DVD movies and TV series  including children's materials in the library. We also have the popular 英汉双解中文字典 for sale. All proceeds go to NWCS PTA.

If you have library materials that are due, please return them during library hours.

交通安全注意事项 Safety Reminder

上周有老师在学校差点被快速行驶的车辆撞倒. 这里提醒大家, 在校园里一定要低速行驶, 注意行人,保证大家的安全.

This is a reminder that we should drive very carefully on school campus. Last week a pedestrian almost got hit by a fast moving car on campus. Please always keep in mind that safety is our top priority in school. Thanks.

Mobile App Hackathon for High School Students  ( see attachment )

AT&T and CIE- Seattle (Chinese Institute of Engineers – Seattle) host the first Mobile App Hackathon for High School Students.  This event is produced by the AT&T Developer Program and designed especially for Students in High School (grades 9 -12 or beyond High School) to learn the basics about making mobile applications across a variety of mobile smartphones.  Our Hackathon will introduce students to the latest cutting edge tools to help deploy your own app with a website backend, fully hosted in the cloud.   We will have live developer support from local senior developers from AT&T, Sencha, and Apigee to help students of all levels.  Students can interact with professional mobile app developers and learn about careers in the mobile app industry. 

The Hackathon is FREE to all High School Students.  Come code, eat, and mingle with mobile app professionals!

南京大学夏令营 Nanjing University Summer Program

If you are planning to go back to China in the summer and looking for a summer program there, please think of the program at Nanjing University.  Program details are available on www.nweducation.com

            西华园首届竹子节  First Bamboo Festival at Seattle Chinese Garden ( see attachment) on Sunday, April 22 from noon to 4:30.

Our festival co-organizer, the American Bamboo Society’s Pacific Northwest Chapter, will hold workshops on various topics including types of bamboo, how to grow bamboo in your yard, and what you can build with bamboo. The American Bamboo Society President James Clever and other experts will be on hand for your questions. There will also be a bamboo plant sale and an auction of rare bamboo plants.

The Puget Sound Sumi Artists will also be teaching people how to paint bamboo using traditional techniques.  You can take your work home with you!
